Call for Volunteers

The annual national convention of the Astronomical League, ASTROCON 2025, will be held June 25-28, 2025, under the spectacularly dark skies of Bryce Canyon National Park. The convention aims to teach how to enhance one’s personal viewing experiences through workshops and evening viewing, plus opportunities to learn photography/digital imaging skills.


Astrophotography/Digital Imaging Workshop – Novice:

  • Help for those just getting into photography for the first time. What equipment may be needed, and what basic photography techniques are unique to astronomy?


Astrophotography/Digital Imaging Workshop – Advanced:

  • Intermediate and advanced imagers that want to hone their skills and learn about the latest techniques and equipment.


Observing: Charts / Books / Observing Lists Workshop:

  • Using star charts (digital and paper) and reference books/star atlases.
  • Creation of observing lists for different types of objects.


Observing: Tips & Ideas / Eyepieces / Filters Workshop:

  • Observing tips include how best to use your eyes, what to wear, and equipment ideas.
  • Understanding eyepiece selection.
  • Using filters for visual and photographic work.


Observing: Personal Program / Journal Workshop:

  • Setting up your observing program, including Astronomical League Observing Programs, to consider.
  • Starting and keeping your own journal.


Sketching Workshop:

  • Attendees will receive hands-on experience with drawing what they see at the eyepiece.
