The American Association of Variable Star Observers (AAVSO) is an international non-profit organization of variable star observers whose mission is to enable anyone, anywhere, to participate in scientific discovery through variable star astronomy. We accomplish our mission by carrying out the following activities:

observation and analysis of variable stars
collecting and archiving observations for worldwide access
forging strong collaborations between amateur and professional astronomers promoting scientific research, education, and public outreach using variable star data.

The AAVSO is a non-profit worldwide scientific and educational organization of amateur and professional astronomers who are interested in stars that change in brightness—variable stars. Our bylaws can be found HERE.

The AAVSO was founded in 1911 to coordinate variable star observations—made largely by amateur astronomers—for Harvard College Observatory. The AAVSO was incorporated in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 1918 as a non-profit scientific and educational organization. Today, as an independent, private research organization headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with active participants in more than 100 countries, and an archive of over 34 million variable star observations, it is the world’s largest association of variable star observers.

Membership in the AAVSO is open to anyone—professionals, amateurs, and educators alike—interested in variable stars and in contributing to the support of valuable research.

Professional astronomers have neither the time nor the telescopes needed to gather data on the brightness changes of thousands of variables, and amateurs make a real and useful contribution to science by observing variable stars and submitting their observations to the AAVSO International Database.

• Booth will have League Sales and Astronomical League branded items for sale, including Astronomical League Observing Manuals, clothing and hats, tote and duffle bags, pins, stickers, magnets and more.

• League Sales and National Office staff will be on hand to answer questions about the League, membership, and any other League related questions.

• League Sales will donate a duffle bag (retail value $32) to give away at the Saturday Gala Banquet. For door prizes that may be awarded at other times, League Sales will also donate some items for that as well.

The AAS / Sky & Telescope booth will have a selection of display items for guests to browse through, such as sample issues of the magazine, star atlases, books, star wheels, and other fun material related to astronomy and observing.

We'll also provide guests with QR codes to access our subscription services, online store, and tours pages, among other services we provide online. The editor in chief will be at the booth and looks forward to chatting about Sky & Telescope and astronomy with everyone.

Advanced Telescope Systems has been in the business of building “custom” portable and permanent telescope piers since 1997. The design groundwork was determined by an astronomy hobbyist who realized there were issues with his existing equipment. He made a list and designed his pier to meet his criteria. It had to have portability, be light weight, easy to carry, no tool requirements for set-up, with a height suitable for comfortable viewing. It would have to be stable enough and vibration free for taking photos and accomplishing astrophotography? Could it be used with a variety of equipment and accessories as his interest and knowledge increase? And naturally, affordability was a big consideration.

Dark Sky Utah is the Utah state chapter of DarkSky International, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and protecting the nighttime environment and our heritage of dark skies through the promotion of responsible outdoor lighting. Its mission is to combat light pollution by raising public awareness, educating policymakers, advocating for smart lighting practices, and supporting the creation of dark sky parks, reserves, and communities around the world.

The organization works globally to reduce the negative impacts of artificial light on human health, wildlife, and the ability to experience the wonder of a natural night sky, empowering individuals and communities to reclaim the night through outreach, advocacy, and conservation efforts.
